England received a knockout punch in the first round of the India tour as they collapsed to a eight-wicket defeat to the Board President's XI in the three-day warm-up match in Baroda on Saturday.
President's XI paceman Munaf Patel claimed a 10-wicket haul as England were bowled out for 158 in the second innings, after they had stumbled to 238 in the first. On Friday, India had taken a 104-run first innings lead as Gautam Gambhir's 108 powered them to 342 for eight declared.
With only 55 runs needed on the last day, the President's XI knocked them in 17 overs. Gambhir remained unbeaten on 22 from 54 balls, as the home side scored 58 runs for the loss of Wasim Jaffer (4) and Dheeraj Jadhav (18).
.Patel followed up his 5 for 59 in the first innings, with another sizzling performance, picking up five English wicket for 32 runs.
This is England's only tour match before the first Test in Nagpur begins on Wednesday. Captain Michael Vaughan was rested as a precautionary measure due to the recurrence of a knee problem.

England batsman Marcus Trescothick will return home immediately from the tour of India for personal reasons.
The vice captain's departure adds to England's tour woes with captain Micahel Vaughan doubtful for the start of the first test on Wednesday due to the recurrence of a knee problem.

Mohammad Kaif and Anil Kumble performed a remarkable salvage job as a jittery India came back from the gallows to keep themselves afloat in the first cricket Test against England on Friday.
Kaif slammed a gritty 91 and found able support from veteran Kumble (58) as the duo pulled India out of a precarious 190 for seven to a far more respectable 322 for nine at close on an eventful third day.
Kaif made a memorable return to the Test arena as he not only notched up his third half century but played the sheet anchor's role to perfection to save the blushes for his team which was in total disarray at the lunch break.
The eighth-wicket pair put on a face-saving 128-run partnership which has more or less restored the balance in the match although the hosts still trail England by 71 runs.
Resuming at the overnight score of 136 for one, the hosts collapsed dramatically, losing six wickets in quick succession with paceman Matthew Hoggard wrecking the top order with five wickets.

captain's knock by Rahul Dravid and an inspired bowling performance led by Anil Kumble saw India turn the tables on England and put themselves in a position of victory on the penultimate of the second cricket Test at Mohali on Sunday. After a timely 95 by Dravid and useful contributions from the lower order helped India take a slender first innings lead, Kumble struck thrice to leave England teetering at 112 for five in their second essay at the PCA stadium.
Last day what will be the result???
Score so Far :Eng 300/10 Ind 338/10 Eng 112/5 England Leads by 74 Runs Good luck to team India
