KOLKATA, India (Reuters) - Coach Greg Chappell has written to the Indian cricket board criticising captain Saurav Ganguly, a senior board official said on Friday.
"The board has received a letter from the coach which criticises the captain, but I'm not aware of the details," the official, who did not wish to be identified, told Reuters.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Ranbir Mahendra acknowledged receipt of the e-mail, but refused to divulge the details.
Domestic media said Chappell had written that Ganguly, under pressure due to a batting slump, was not fit to lead the team and that his presence was having a negative impact.
Ganguly told the media on the recent tour of Zimbabwe that before the first test in Bulawayo, Chappell had suggested that he step down in favour of an in-form batsman.
Although Ganguly scored his first test hundred for almost two years in that game, he was criticised for disclosing the dressing room discussions.
However, Chappell issued a press statement before the second Harare test saying he had only tried to motivate the captain.
India completed a 2-0 test series rout over their struggling southern African rivals on Thursday, but there has been little cheer within the team due to the rift between the coach and captain.
Ganguly is India's most successful test captain with 21 victories since he took over the job in 2000.

I see Ganguly as the man who shaped the Indian team to its best performances in the recent past. He has been an excellent leader & motivator for every member in the team. The team had acheived several laurels time & again bcoz of his efficient leadership (I'm not undermining the performance of the players).
As the captain, he has many-a-times given chances and has fought against the odds to get a place for deserving players in the Indian team. With responsibilty as a captain there are times when his personal performances have not been great enuff.... but isn't tht natural! Many of us don't really take up all tasks with the same zeal & tempermant... For example, take Sachin, he is an excellent player but when it comes to lead a team he was pathetic... therefore, had to quit being a leader & continue as a player. In Ganguly's case it's different... He is an efficient leader. There is no reason why he shud step down of captaincy.
Regarding his mental & physical fitness as reported in news I wonder how much of this is true... sadly, it sounds more of yellow journalism. I'm sure a person of such high regard as Chappell will not make such slanderous statements. If this is true, I think its sad... looks like politics is deep rooted in sports too...

Well Said swetha Sorav gangully is a very good captain When India was 3/10 he took India to 7/10 but its also true that we dont ahve to look what we have got we have to look for best , we have to achieve 10/10 and for that case Indian captain has to be chnaged
And as said by u " For example, take Sachin, he is an excellent player but when it comes to lead a team he was pathetic... "
When Sachin was captain , what was team ? No one was performing but when gangully got captaincy the team was changing Even in last series It was pathan who took wickets So captaincy will work If players play well
[glow=red,2,300]In India first captain is selected and then Rest team is selected In other teams First players are selected and then team[/glow]
Think we have to look for best ,
Will u not agree Sourav Gangully always comes late in toss even in team meetings? Is captain should not be punctual?
OK if coach is changed I dont think we can get another profesional coach and new coach will always be under pressure I ahve great regards for Gangully as player and captain but we have to select best 11 players or 12 players to play and If kaiff will not play at no 3 always how can u think of Improoving team
Look we have to think for best We have taken services for Non Indian Coach as we wanted that our team should perform best Best means Best No good no better ... [glow=red,2,300] lets See What BCCI decides Good luck to Indian Cricket[/glow]
