The Central Board of Secondary Education ((CBSE), India’s premier education board is all set reform the exam system. In its quest to make class 10 exams more student friendly it has decided to replace marks with a nine point grading system. It has also decided to do away with the concept of “pass or fail” and will make students secure “qualifying grade” in at least four of the five subjects. Students who do not clear the exam in the first attempt can take four more attempts in two years to improve grades.
Ashok Ganguly, Chairman of CBSE said the new pattern would commence for class IX in 2006-07 academic session. He also said there is a proposal to replace the concept of ‘pass-fail’ in subjects by a group of subjects which are being grouped into language, mathematics, science and social science.
The board will also overhaul the contents in subjects like Physiology, hygiene, technology, agricultural sciences and home science. From 2007, the students will no longer need to write a 75 marks exam. Instead they will write a 60 marks paper and the remaining 40 marks will be divided between internal assessment, viva-voce, practical projects.
Will it make a difference ?

OMG!!!! Is this actually true.. sigh!! i need to start readin the paper more often!!
and as far as will it make a difference goes... the answer is no!! no chance...
as long as the teaching and the course content is the same whether u grade or give marks, it is still the same!!
the boards, the teacher checkin the exam papers, he doesnt eva care that the marks he is givin ( or not givin) is actually effectin a child... dey do it for monety and more da papers checked in one hour.. more da money earned.. nd as long as tht exists, teachers wont pay attention to what the child has written at all and hence again.. makin no differnce at all
also... boardas are pretty much muggin up da chapter. as long as u r gud at muggin up, u will score gud... if u apply knowledge.. u loose marks.. me personally havin experince wid education systems inindia nd canada, am sayin all this... i aint sayin da education system here is absolute... but its application of knowledge and not aburden... i am personally havin fun wid studies here which i nva did bak home...
so its pretty much da content of course and attitude of the examiners that needs to be changed...
