Bisibele Bhath Recipe
Ingredients :
Rice - 1 cup Red gram(Thuvaraparippu) - 3/4 cup Onions(peeled) - 1 cup Potatoes(diced) - 1 cup Peas - 3/4 cup Tomatoes(Large) - 2 nos Tamarind juice - 2 tbsp Salt - As reqd Ghee - 3 tbsp Oil - 4 tbsp Bisibele bhath masala powder-2 tsp Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp Chilly powder - As reqd Chopped coriander leaves Fresh grated coconut
The measures vary depending upon how you prefer , but generally make sure the recipe is not too spicy.
You can buy Priya's or MTR bisibele bhath masala powder
How to make :
1)Cook diced potatoes (don`t overcook).
2)Pressure cook red gram/toor dhal by adding turmeric powder.
3)Cook rice separately and allow it to cool.
4)Soak tamarind in water for sometime and then extract the juice.
5)Heat oil in a pan.
6)Add little bisibele bhath masala powder. --- about 1 TBSP.
7)Add onions and fry them till translucent.
8)Add tomatoes and cook for another 3 minutes.
9)Add peas, cooked potatoes and cooked dal.
10)Add remaining masala powder, tamarind juice and about 1 cup of water and bring it to boil.
11)Add salt and chilly powder as required.
12)While boiling, add cooked rice and simmer for another 5 minutes.
13)Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and fresh grated coconut.
14)Pour little ghee on top.

Ingredients :
Rice - 1 cup Coriander leaves(chopped) - 1/4 cup Grated coconut - 1/4 cup Onions - 2 nos (chopped into small pieces) Green chillies - 3 - 4 nos Cumin seeds(Jeerakam) - 1/2 tsp Garlic pod - 1 no Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp Ghee - 3 tsp (can also use 2 tsp of veg oil + 1 tsp of ghee) Water - As reqd to cook the rice Salt - As reqd
How To Prepare : 1)Cook the rice, till its half done.
2)Heat 1 tsp of ghee in a pan.
3)Saute half of the chopped onions, green chillies, garlic and cumin seeds, till onions turn light brown in colour.
4)Grind the above along with coconut and coriander leaves. Keep aside.
5)Heat the remaining ghee in a kadai.
6)Saute the onions, till golden brown.
7)Add the coriander paste and turmeric powder and saute for 2-3 mins.
8)Add the half cooked rice and salt.
9)Cover and cook, till its done.
