Hair today and gone tomorrow so why not take good care of the hair that is here today and make them last longer. Lustrous, thick, and long hair is any woman s dream. The quality and quantity of hair is in the genes, so there is hardly anything one can do to completely change the texture or modify the quality of crowning glory. But with regular care, the hair can be kept healthy.
The basic hair care is keeping the scalp and the hair strands clean as the dirty scalp is the cause of all hair problems, be it dandruff or hair loss. And the most effective home made shampoo is the mixture of reetha, shikakai and amla. Soak overnight equal amount of these dried seeds/fruit in approximately one litre of water. Next day boil the mixture slowly till it is reduced to half. Cool and strain. Voila! The shampoo is ready to use.
To reduce hair loss and dandruff, mix a paste of methi seeds, onion, neem leaves and lemon juice with curd (dahi) and apply to the scalp. Leave it on for 40 minutes and then shampoo. Alternately, make a paste with amla, shikakai and henna powder, apply and leave it on for 20 minutes and shampoo. Regular use will definitely reduce hair fall. A quick and easy way to reduce dandruff is to apply a mixture of vinegar and water to the scalp.
Mayonnaise is a good conditioner for dry hair. Apply half a cup of mayonnaise to unwashed hair, cover it with a plastic bag and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse a few times before shampooing.
A hot oil treatment is necessary to revitalize hair. For a professional hot oil treatment, saturate hair with olive, sesame or corn oil. Wrap head in plastic or aluminum foil and then apply hot towel. Keep towels on for 20 minutes.
Massaging rose-water on the scalp is helpful in treating dry hair. Mix olive oil and honey to the ripe papaya mash and apply to hair. Shampoo after an hour. To treat oily hair it is best to use a mixture of multani mitti, amla, ritha and shikakai. Shampoo hair after 40 minutes.
Hair care with natural ingredients is economical, nourishing and most importantly non-toxic. All the remedies mentioned here have to be used regularly to get the desired result.
